Girl Satchmo

blue 001, originally uploaded by Kollage Kid.

A Blue Beat single I found many years ago at a jumble sale in Basildon of all places along with dozens of others. I have no idea who Girl Satchmo is or about her partner who sounds more like Satchmo than she does. Its rather confusing really?
If anyone can shed any light it will be most welcome.

I like these, they are quite charming. Glad that you were able to resolve your blogging problems!

Thanks baikinange. I was forced to use the Flikr blogging option which i was loathe to do as I lost most of my images when I left Flickr a couple of years ago and got left with a load of blank spaces. Hopefully can go back to using Blogger eventually when the gremlins have left.

I used to pick up all manner of unusual records in Basildon market in the 80's, and once stood alongside Vince Clarke in Kellys record department who seemed to share my passion for 70's Faust records..

What a small world eh Dtikler! My favourite haunt was Pitsea market i must admit. I remember it even before the three domes when it was a decaying heap of corrgated iron in in the early 60's and the stall full of wonderful cheap ex- juke box singles I used to spend my pocket money on. Where are they now I wonder - those singles- I probably have them all on other formats now. I must add some more ska singles- they seem to be popular again, or did they ever go out of favour? probabaly not.

I stood next to the lead singer of Depeche Mode on Basildon station once. He looked very ordinairy close up.

I remember those - I went to school in Pitsea and we used to climb all over the old domes at lunch time. I used to frequent the new market record stalls - not completely sure but I vaguely remember Adrians Records having a stall there..

Yeah old Dave Gahan. I think I played football with him once. I remember seeing Alison Moyet in the Double 6 and Towngate theatre bar too. Big scary punk she was.

Small world indeed :)
Have done the big Basildon boot sale many times and bought and sold loads of vinyl, might have seen you there :)
Remember the 3 domes but don't recall buying many records there.
Basildon market was a favourite in the seventies and Downtown records on Southernhay plus Godfreys in Laindon, before I discovered Adrians at Wickford which was a treasure trove of early punk / new wave and all those gimmicky picture discs and coloured vinyls :)

As for the Depeche Mode connection I can only claim to have worked with Martin Gore's dad and saw Norman and the Worms at Roundacre who grew into DM later, and once spoke to Alison Moyet (but that was at Kilburn station in London?).

Good memories

THE Les Dawson?

Thanks Dtikler and Asbo for the nostalgia- nice to get some feedback from those times. My younger brother was more of an Adrians fan, I live in Cheshire now but still have family in Basildon so go back every so often.
THAT Les Dawson LF? Wouldnt it be amazing if it was - all that out of tune piano playing! ha ha!
